Corvettes have long been known for their cooling shortcomings and, seeing as how it's a car that's no stranger to performance driving, it tends to become an issue more often that not.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eOne event in particular was when the Z06 failed to complete a hot lap during the 2015 \u003ca\u003eMotor Trend\u003c\/a\u003e \"Best Driver's Car\" competition. Regardless of the issues at hand, somehow it still put down one of the fastest laps overall compared to its competition. According to Motor Authority, C7 Z06 Corvette owners have banned together to serve General Motors a new class-action lawsuit over the car's alleged cooling system defects. It's the fourth class-action lawsuit over this matter. Even though GM claims to have a fix for the cooling issue, many still experienced \"limp mode\" during track sessions, and some on the streets and highways.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cfigure\u003e\u003cimg\u003e\u003c\/figure\u003e\u003cp\u003eOur friends over at \u003ca\u003eMotoIQ\u003c\/a\u003e have a Z51 C7 and claim that it's not rare to see the vehicle (in ideal conditions) hit temperatures around 220-230 degrees, in turn, sending the car into limp mode. The increase in horsepower also tremendously increases the heat generated from the engine, and puts further stress on an already flawed charge-air cooling system. When upgrading the vehicle's power, the ECU can also start to pull timing and decrease the car's power output \" even just during spirited driving, not necessarily only on the track.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eHow the Charge Cooling System Works\u003cbr\u003e Because of CSF's industry-leading reputation and deep knowledge of high-performance BMW cooling systems, its engineers immediately knew what had to be fixed in order to maximize and maintain consistent performance with the B58 engine. The engine is very similar to the S55 in the latest F8X M3\/M4 \" both feature a liquid-to-air charge cooler mounted on the top of the engine, along with a front mount heat exchanger (water radiator) that first cools the fluid that then cycles through the charge cooler, dissipating heat from the charge air before it enters the engine.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe difference is that the B58 liquid-to-air charge cooler is integrated into the intake manifold, rather than being a stand-alone unit that can be easily replaced (like in the F8X S55 variant). Because the charge cooler is built into the manifold, it's extremely difficult to replace with a high-performance solution, with currently no aftermarket support available.
