CSF x Bisimoto Veloster/i30 N Intercooler
Description
After two years of ongoing development through busy schedules and the chaos of 2021, CSF is excited to finally announce the release of our first official collaboration with Bisimoto: the new Hyundai Veloster N and i30 N High-Performance Stepped-Core Intercooler.
Turning an idea into reality
Many may not know this, but CSF and Bisimoto are very close " not just in our relationship that has spanned the course of 10+ years, but also in geographic proximity (within 10 minutes of each other here in Southern California). CSF has been the go-to cooling solution for all of Bisi's recent custom project cars, so it was about time there was a collaboration on a production cooling system.
Bisimoto is no stranger to Hyundai tuning " back in 2019, Bisi approached CSF back in need of an upgraded intercooler for his factory-backed Veloster N SEMA project. Pushing the limits of the N platform, Bisi's car featured upgraded turbos and high-performance tuning, resulting in the OEM intercooler showing its weaknesses and inability to shed heat from the turbo system.
On short notice (as most SEMA builds are), CSF and Bisimoto modified one of CSF's industry-leading BMW N55 intercoolers to fit into the vehicle in time for SEMA. This not only helped make the show deadline, but it allowed CSF to immediately start testing the performance of the prototype intercooler in a higher power setup.
After SEMA, the next stop was the SEMA Garage, who helped with 3D printing the original design made by CSF's engineers. After verifying fitment in the U.S. on the Veloster N, the prototype was then sent to CSF Europe to verify fitment on the similar i30 N. A couple unique changes after fitment testing has allowed CSF to make this a multi-fit product, now available globally for both the Veloster N and i 30 N platforms.
The csf advantage
With technology taken from CSF's #1 selling BMW N54/N55 intercooler, the front face of the intercooler features CSF's exclusive rounded bar/plate design, which aids the air entering the intercooler core by curving around the front bars rather than hitting and scattering on the surface of a traditional flat-bar faced intercooler.
CSF's stepped-core design maximizes all of the available frontal area behind the front bumper and underneath the crash bar. The stepped-core protrudes upwards in front of the A.C. Condenser and sits just shy of the crash bar, for both the Veloster N and i30 N.
I30 N vehicles have a sheet metal bracket to affix an air temperature sensor hanging from the crash bar " this bracket is to be removed and the sensor can conveniently be installed on the left side tank of the CSF intercooler.
Through prototype testing and data acquisition with Bisimoto, the decision was made to keep the OEM-sized inlet and outlet connections. This resulted in low pressure drop, even considering how much larger the CSF intercooler is " in addition, this feature removes the need to include costly and unnecessary silicone hoses, allowing CSF to offer the N community the best value, entering the market at the most aggressive price point.
